Using Spotify on your JK/FJ1001, both On and Offline!

One application that we absolutely love over here at Insane Audio for almost any setting is Spotify! We have always found them to have a great interface, excellent pre-made playlists created by great sources and artists, as well as the ability to build your own library and playlists within the app. They have a great collection of music to pull from and update and add to it consistently. They also have a fantastic user interfaces, including the Android interface on the JK/FJ1001!

It is the best to have such a seamless application. We can listen to Spotify on our iPhone or Android, switch over to the computer and it picks up where we left off, switch to our JK1001 and it’s still the same! You can also compile your own library of music that you want to hear, and then make playlists with them or just listen to the whole thing on shuffle.
When it comes to the JK1001 & FJ1001, there is a particular feature of Spotify that comes in real handy. The Spotify Premium feature/subscription also allows you to take your library (up to 3,333 songs) and save them to a storage device for offline use! That means if you’re out trekking an awesome mountain trail in your vehicle, and you are out of data service, you can still listen to all of your favorites right in your dash board. At only $10/month, it is one of the cheaper streaming services as well.
If you are a Spotify Premium subscriber, getting music saved for offline use is a snap! You will need a MicroSd card installed in the SD Card slot of your JK/FJ1001 unit. First, go to the menu in the upper-right corner of the Home screen. Then, tap the “Settings” icon in the lower right corner of the menu. (It looks like a small gear) Once you have opened Settings, scroll down to the OTHER category. In this, you will find an option that says “Storage.” Tap this option to open it. Then, select the “SD card” option that says --/mnt/external_sd2--. After that, you will need to make sure you have saved all of the music you want in your library. Once you have done that, tap the menu option in the upper left of the Home screen, and scroll down to “Your Library.”

Once you have opened your library, (I always open mine to the “Songs” view) you will notice a little slide lever to the right and above your song list. It is labeled “Available Offline.”

Image

After you slide the lever over, you will notice little download symbols appear in gray beside each song in your library. Once you then connect to an internet source via WiFi, the songs will start to download.

Once the download is complete, the download symbols will turn green. This means they have been saved to the MicroSD card and are now ready for offline use!

Spotify does say that you will need to connect your device to the internet every once in a while to verify subscription and download any updates. Also, just so you know, the music files are encrypted and can only be played on the Spotify player. They are not full mp3 files.

All in all, we love Spotify for our JK1001 & FJ1001! Try it out, and you will too!

I'm having trouble playing music from my library. I completed the above steps (menus are a bit different, maybe the app has changed) and I have downloaded a full playlist from my Spotify account. The problem is that I can't play my playlist whether online or offline. I click the shuffle button and it does nothing. If I am online and play one of their crappy home page playlists I can pick a single song from my playlist and make it play next, but that's it. Anyone else having issues like this?

I set this up today and I have to say I absolutely love it. 5 minutes after I got home I cancelled my Sirus XM account, I will definately not be needing that anymore.

I keep having a problem that is just baffling as heck to me, to the point of discontinuing my Spotify subscription. First, I set my JK1001 to download (DL) straight to the SD card. Since my Jeep can connect to my WiFi router while parked in the driveway, I DL'ed Spotify right onto my JK1001. Then I made my own play lists and DL'ed them and each song had the green arrow next to it meaning that it had DL'ed. I thought I was all set, especially since I listened to the music I DL'ed for a few days with no problems. Then I got into my Jeep, waited for my JK1001 to completely load and punched the Spotify icon. When Spotify loaded, ALL the green arrows were gone. It of course says that I'm offline which is why I DL'ed all my music so I don't have to worry about being online. Since I was on a 90-day-free Premium use program, I thought maybe it was due to the fact that I WAS on the free usage program so I subscribed to the regular Spotify Premium. Then I had to go back through DL'ing all those songs again (a few hundred plus some Albums), which is a major pain in the petunias and very time consuming. After completing that arduous task everything worked fine for about a week and then today the same thing happened again. All the names of the songs are still lit but the green arrows are gone again. I really don't feel like going through the process of DL'ing all that music again without knowing what is causing the problem so I can fix it. Anyone have any knowledge of Spotify who can help me? I'd really appreciate any information and help anyone can give me. I really like Spotify due to its ease of use and the wide variety of pre-made Playlist available, some of which I listen to. Can anyone help, please?

A quick Google search and it looks like this is a known issue with the Spotify app across quite a few different devices -- https://community.spotify.com/t5/forums ... 595/page/1

One user suggested that if you exit the spotify app before shutting down your device the problem may go away. That might be something to try.

We know lots (and lots) of customers are using Spotify on their Insane Audio head units. Anyone else out there experience this problem?
